Based at the bottom of Penryn there is a cafe named after the way the harbour look when the tide is out, Muddy Beach. We decided to pop in to try out their breakfast one morning as we had heard so much about them. When we arrived the atmosphere was really nice and welcoming. There were people already in enjoying their teas and coffees. We picked up some menus from the counter and sat ourselves. We read the menu and tried to make up our minds as the options all looked so good. Eventually we settled on one vegan breakfast and a Muddy Beach breakfast. Once we decided we headed up to the counter to place our orders and pay and the staff were so friendly. Whilst we waited we enjoyed the view out of the big windows across the harbour, the tide was in when we went so we could see the water splashing against the sides of the boats. They do have outside seating which I image is absolutely amazing in the summer, we weren’t quite brave enough to sit outside just yet.

When the food arrived I must admit I was slightly disappointed by the portion size. I had the vegan breakfast and was brought one sausage, one slice of toast, some fried potato, a handful of baby spinach and a small pot of sweet paprika beans. I tucked in and the flavours are wonderful. Everything was nice and hot and it tasted great, the paprika beans were really the star of the plate it’s just a shame there was only a small pot. The vegan sausage was great and flavourful, definitely not at a risk for bland vegan food here as it was so yum.

The Muddy Beach breakfast again was on the smaller side of portioning with one Cornish sausage, a rasher of bacon, a piece of hog’s pudding, some fried potato, a slice of toast, sweet paprika beans and an egg. Even though it was on the smaller side it was fantastic to know all the ingredients were locally sourced. It really shows in the flavour of the dishes. The sweet paprika beans were definitely my breakfast partners favourite part of the breakfast she’d never tried them before and said it was really nice to try something out of her comfort zone and guarantees she will be attempting to make her own.

The breakfast is perfect for those who have a smaller appetite but for those who crave something a little more filling it does miss the mark slightly. However, they do have a beautiful selection of baked good that looked oh so very tempting but we didn’t quite get round to it on this trip. We’ll definitely be going back to try one of their brownies and hopefully will get to enjoy it outdoors in the sunshine. They also do lunches and an evening menu where you can enjoy a great meal with a glass of wine so be sure to check out their menus online and have a look over at their Instagram
